Steamboat Winter Trivia Challenge?
Posted by Kim Filler3. What is a three wire winter?
Ranchers use their fence wires to measure snowfall. By late January or February of a typical winter the third wire is covered standing usually at 48 inches high. On March 2, 1929 30 inches of snow fell onto 27 inches already on the ground in a 24 hour period, making it the record.
As of the date of this post, Steamboat has received 268 inches of snow for the 2013/2014 season. I think we are at a 3-wire winter!
