Winter Is Just Around the Corner. SKI magazine ranks Steamboat 8th!

Saturday, October 15th, 2011

Steamboat Ski Area was just rated 8th overall ski resort in North American by SKI Magazine’s reader survey. Steamboat was among six resorts from Colorado in the top ten, and the ranking represent a progression of six spots from last year.

SKI Magazine surveys more than 50,000 subscribers through the mail and online survey each year to determine the most popular resorts in North America across various categories ranging from on-mountain terrain and variety, to off-mountain dining, lodging and accessibility. Steamboat’s overall top-ten ranking was a combination of reader’s scores across a number of categories including family (#6), snow (#8), lifts (#8), lodging (#9), off-hill activities (#9), service (#10), après-ski (#10), dining (#11), character (#12), on-mountain food (#13), digital presence (#13), grooming (#14) and terrain parks (#15) .

Steamboat is famous for its authentic western atmosphere, friendliness, variety of terrain and Champagne Powder® snow, Steamboat-Ski Town, U.S.A.® encompasses 165 trails, 3,668 vertical feet, and nearly 3,000 skiable acres with six peaks filled with world-class groomed cruisers, bumps, steeps, open meadows, four terrain parks and legendary trees.

For guests coming to Steamboat this winter will notice changes in the base area including heated pavers throughout Gondola Square, additions to the Promenade project connecting Ski Time Square and Gondola Square, and a permanent stage adjacent to the Gondola for concerts including the Bud Light Rocks the Boat free concert series in the spring.

With four 400+ inch winters in the past six years, and another La Nina storm system forecasted for this winter, you won’t want to miss your chance to experience Ski Town, USA and the home of Champagne Powder snow.

The Early Rewards Program which offers 25% off lodging and 25% off lift tickets expires on Monday, October 17, 2011. If you were ever thinking about returning to Steamboat or trying Steamboat for the first time, call Kim this weekend at 1-800-820-1886 to book your vacation package.

TRIP ADVISOR / FLIP KEY RANKS US AS ‘ONE OF THE BEST’

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Ten years have come & gone since Condos in Steamboat was founded. In those years, Steamboat has changed, our business has grown, we built our dream home, had a child and traveled back to Australia twice.

During all this our focus never changed on the business side of things. It was always about the personalized service we give to every reservation, attention to every detail in our rental units and making sure we exceed our guests’ expectations – this is what sets us apart from the crowd!

We were recently recognized and honored by two leading Internet based travel review web sites.

Trip Advisor, the world’s largest travel site for travel information and reviews in partnership with Flipkey, who focuses on Vacation Rental Properties, rated our services “Excellent” for 2011.

Additionally, Flipkey awarded Condos in Steamboat the title of “Top Rental Manager” – an exclusive honor awarded to a very select group of rental managers based on reviews from past guests.

It is a huge accomplishment for such a small company to be recognized by the largest travel web site. We are honored to receive these awards. We want to thank all our wonderful past renters who wrote a review. We strive everyday to be better and because of our guests, we are now recognized as “One of the Best”.

It’s time to think skiing – Again!

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Steamboat reached a huge snow milestone this past winter, recording a four-wire winter.  Yampa Valley ranchers have traditionally measured the snow by how high it stacks up against their four fence wires.

By January or February of a typical winter, snow will cover the third fence wire, usually 30 inches high.  Four-wire winters, generally more than 350 inches at the resort’s mid-mountain location, were recorded in 1983/84, 1989/90, 1992/93, 1995/96, 1996/97, 1999/2000, 2005/06, 2007/08, 2008/09, and again in 2010/11.

It may be the middle of summer and we are all enjoying the great outdoors in shorts and T’s,  but now is the time to think about booking your next ski season’s ski trip.   Book Early and receive 25% off lodging and 25% off lift tickets. (restrictions apply).   Kids 12 & under ski free with a paying 5 day adult pass.  One child per one adult.

Moose visits Quail Run

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Living in Steamboat we get to see lots of wildlife but in 19 years I’ve never experienced this.  We have several units for rent in Quail Run and this Moose decided it was a great place to hang out.  He has since moved around from complex to complex and I see him on occasion.

Resort known for its champagne powder — and for embracing families

Steamboat, known for having more U.S. Olympians — 79, including 17 from the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games — than any other American town.

While other resorts have adapted various aspects, Steamboat has morphed to include kids rent-gear-free, Kids Ski Free has put the town on the map as family central, which could add up to savings of hundreds of dollars a child for a five-day trip. Teens up to 18 get a break on lift tickets, too, as do skiing grandparents. No wonder families remain at the core of the resort’s business.

Steamboat is chosen repeatedly because the resort is known for its champagne powder — more than 400 inches of snow a year — its new Kids Vacation Center (now doubled in size) for five and seven year olds, plenty of terrain for such a varied group of snowboarders (lower intermediate) and skiers (expert), as well as non-skiers (they plan to snowshoe). Parents will like that there are lifts just for the terrain parks — look for 30 new and refurbished features, designed for different levels, on the four progressive parks so teens can “lap” the parks easily and safely.

Condos in Steamboat, a small property management company, offer many choices of kid friendly accommodations. From budget to luxury, from ski-in condos with pools & hot tubs and private shuttle services. All our units have snow sleds and some have snow ball & igloo making equipment because we know the fun doesn’t have to stop once the slopes close.

It seems that once families discover Steamboat — there are direct flights from nine major cities across the country — they return again and again. More than 60 percent of families are repeat customers.

Condos in Steamboat owners, Kim & Dan Filler, have lived in Steamboat since 1983. Their 5 yr old son, Jake, has been on skis since he was 23 months old.  The entire Filler Family looks forward to 2010 / 2011 ski season.  They are currently offering  20% off lodging and 20% off lift tickets & Kids Ski Free.

Children in lessons, instructors will be required to wear helmets this year.

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Steamboat Springs — Intrawest, the parent company of Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., is tightening the rules and increasing awareness about helmet use at its resorts this year.

Intrawest will recommend this ski season that all skiers and snowboarders wear helmets at its resorts, and it will require helmets for children and some teens in ski and snowboard school programs, according to a Thursday news release. All students participating in freestyle terrain parks will be required to wear a helmet.

At Steamboat Ski Area, helmets already were required for terrain park classes. Under the new Intrawest rules, the resort will require students ages 15 and younger to wear helmets, Ski Corp. spokeswoman Loryn Kasten said.

Steamboat claims #1 for family ski resort by Ski Magazine

Monday, September 21st, 2009

The annual SKI Magazine readership surveys are in and once again Steamboat claims top honors as the # 1 Family Resort in North America.  The Magazine states “Steamboat treats kids like VIPs, which makes parents feel like VIPs.”

“It’s a real town, not just a resort built for ski tourists,” says one reader. “My sons learned to ski at Steamboat, and we still ski there together 21 years later,” says another.

The report also goes on to note that Steamboat claimed top 10 scores in Lodging (#9) and Dining (#10) would indicate that they’re getting it right. One thing that doesn’t need improvement is Steamboat’s snow (#8) and its authentic Western ambience.

What’s New : Expanded Kids Vacation Center; additional snowmaking; new Ski School Ticket office; new gear rental fleet

Don’t Miss : Watch ski-jumping future Olympians on Howelsen Hill, in downtown Steamboat.

Mandatory Run : The trees between Hurricane and Twister—locally referred to as Twistercane: well-spaced and plenty of snow to plunder days after a storm.
